Summa
were formerly known as HFM, just in case you wondered where a band as
good as this could suddenly spring from! Here's what the press have to
say about them:- "Fantomas-esque
metal" - Kerrang! "Like
SikTh and Messhugah jamming together" - Total Rock "The
impenetrable swamp of a sound is the perfect backdrop for guitars that
fly off on multiple tangents and a triple-pronged vocal approach that,
on occasion, sounds like a verbose machine gun" -
Kerrang! "Think
of the technical wizardry of SikTh/Dillinger Escape Plan, and add the
combined girth of a column of challenger tanks, then you have the
crushingly brutal maelstrom that is Summa" -
Atakat Sunrise "Think speed of
SikTh, combined with the dark power of Converge" -
Audiocratic.
Sadly the band will be
splitting up in February 2009 - here's their final statement: "I’m
sure it comes as no big surprise, since the mailouts have dried up and
the shows have become sparse. Summa are finally calling it a day. After
a good 7+ years, we’ve had to come round to the fact that life has moved
on and we all have other commitments that require our time, leaving less
and less room for the band. We’ve had a great
time, met some awesome people and played some excellent shows. We want
to finish on a high so we’re playing one final gig and releasing one
last CD before we go. Those of you that have been along to the last few
gigs will know that we’ve written a whole new set and the good news is
that we’ve recorded all the new songs. The idea is to have
the CD ready for the final show and if we’re lucky, that’s how it will
go. We want to get it right, so there is a chance that the CD will come
along a bit later. We’ll let you know nearer the time. We’ve got our
friend James Holt producing it, he’s already got it sounding great and
he’s dedicated to getting it done, so it’ll sound excellent no matter
what happens. Our final show is going to be on the
7th of February at The Gander in Bournemouth . It’s one of
Bear’s shows and will have us on a bill with
Ramses and our good friends
I Am Colossus! If you’re nearby,
come in and have beer with us. We are playing second so we’ve got plenty
of drinking time. Thank you for supporting us through the years, for coming along to the
shows and giving a shit about our music. It’s been a long, stressful,
but massively fulfilling ride. We hope you enjoyed it nearly half as
much as we did.
